The tenth walk in Walking Sydney: Fifteen walks with a city's writers is with novelist and music writer Max Easton, from a quiet bush gully in Casula along the Georges River towards the changing skyline of Liverpool. Among these sites was born a love of rugby league and a fascination for the subcultural reaches of the fledgling internet, laying the foundations of a distinctive writing life. Unassuming local nooks – a quiet train station, the towering concrete legs of a disused military bridge, a footy field – give rise to stories of class, subcultural music communities and lives spent trying to make something happen.

Walking Sydney - out now.
