The fourth walk in Walking Sydney: Fifteen walks with a city's writers is with essayist Eda Gunaydin through the 'home ground' of her childhood: Parramatta. We navigate the ever-changing streetscape, considering forms of surveillance and authority in the colonial sandstone buildings, acknowledging the stories told by marks in the trees and in middens unearthed by development. Here among towering cranes, alongside the ancient river, the people of Parramatta make their lives and art amid a continually unfolding story of change. Read more in Walking Sydney, out 1 September.
